New Server IP's
The move to the new server is complete. The new IP's are noted above.

We said goodbye to an old friend of over 3/12 years. She served us well. It was hard trying to determine what files to keep and which to toss. There was many a long hour put in by Crazy Yoda on many of the mods. I hope I kept enough.

Now, get on the servers and play. Leave comments about the performance, the mods, the maps, etc. Anything you think would make your gameplay more enjoyable should be discussed.

See you on the battle field and in the forums.

New Server Coming Soon

In a few days, we should have a new server up and running. It will be a 2.0Ghz Dual Core Xeon Woodcrest cpu with 2Gb's Ram, and one 250 GB hard drive.

Though we are currently running a 2.4Ghz Dual Xeon Prestonia chips with 1Gb ram and 2 SATA HD's, this should be a step up. I'm told that the Woodcrest chips are crushing the competition.

Also new will be an admin panel for selecting games to install on the server. The new admin panel will allow authorized users access to user-specific commands and powers.

I'll post a list of supported games, when I know them.

That is all.

Syd Barrett Dies

Shine On

This was written by Ken Barnes on UAS Today's website.

Floyd's first leader, Syd Barrett, dies A sad return for me -- just turned on the computer after 11 days out of pocket and saw that Syd Barrett had died at 60. The announcement was just released, but it appears Barrett, who suffered from diabetes, died an unspecified few days ago.

Syd Barrett will always be one of rock's great might-have-been mysteries. When Pink Floyd made their startling debut in 1967 straight out of Cambridge, England, with first single Arnold Layne and debut album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, the band sounded like nothing else on earth. And Barrett, make no mistake about it, was Pink Floyd. The other members -- bassist Roger Waters, drummer Nick Mason, keyboardist Rick Wright -- supplied instrumental coloration, but they were fulfilling the singular vision of Barrett.

In songs such as See Emily Play (a top 10 UK hit), Gnome, Lucifer Sam and Scarecrow, he devised a peculiar mix of classic British whimsy and avant-garde psychedelic pop, a style that set the tone for a key stream of British music for the next five years and onward.

The remarkable Astronomy Domine set Floyd's outer-space-rock agenda, but Barrett's explorations of inner space caused a frighteningly quick crash, as follows.

A legendary consumer of LSD and other drugs, Barrett rapidly fell into a state of virtual catatonia, standing motionless onstage, contributing only occasional vocals and random guitar slashings. The rest of the band first hired Cambridge chum David Gilmour to augment Barrett's role, then simply decided to carry on without their putative leader. Barrett shows up ephemerally on Floyd's second album, A Saucerful of Secrets (the fascinatingly disjointed Jugband Blues is his, and a couple of outtakes exist), but that was the end of his Floydian legacy.

Somehow, with the assistance of erstwhile bandmates Gilmour and Wright, he managed to complete two cult-adored solo albums, The Madcap Laughs and Barrett, released in 1970, both by turns fascinating and frightening in their raw glimpses of a fragmenting mind still illuminated by flashes of musical genius. But that last burst of creativity, apart from scattered outtakes and an abortive 1972 band called Stars that played a few gigs, was it. He retired to his family's Cambridge home and spent his last three decades in virtual anonymity.

Pink Floyd struggled at first without him, but found their way with 1973's alltime prog-rock chart champ, Dark Side of the Moon. They memorialized Barrett on the follow-up, 1975's Wish You Were Here, with the fitting tribute Shine On You Crazy Diamond, and the rest of the Pink Floyd story is too well-known (and too complicated) to go into here.

But it's endlessly fascinating to speculate what would have happened to the band had Barrett not psychedelically imploded. It's doubtful that Waters and Gilmour would have come to the fore as songwriters, so we would not have had Dark Side or The Wall or all the other Floyd landmarks in rock's geography.

But you know what? I'd trade 'em all for another few albums led by a relatively healthy Barrett. During his brief peak, he was as brilliant an innovator and songwriter (and as fascinatingly quirky a guitarist) as anyone during that most creative era. Obviously, we'll never know what he could have done. But spare a kind thought for one of the great, tragically underdeveloped talents of rock's golden era.

CoD Community Action
The below statement sums up what has been going on with COD2 and its impact on the gaming and modding community.

Due to the issues outlined below, and because game play was a total dissapointment, =rTr= is not running a COD2 server anymore.

Please review the following comments that were posted prior to the server lock down back in December. -Syd

There comes a time when a little revolution can do an awful lot more good than meekly submitting to the will of others, especially if you feel you have a genuine greivance.

That time is NOW my friends. What do i mean?

I propose that if you are happy with following Statement you post your acceptance in this thread and get as many others as possible to sign up including League/Ladder players & admins, Clan members, server admins/providers and just about every COD/UO/COD2 player you can ask.

"We request here and now that either Activision or Infinty Ward make an offcial announcement regarding their future support for the Call of Duty series of games on or before 16th December 2005.

The statement should include the following:
1. When will you include an Anti-Cheat system for COD2?
2. When you you release your 1st patch for COD2?
3. What will it include?
4. What other plans have you for the support of the Call of Duty Games?
5. What will you do to ensure this situation does not arise again?

Failure to comply with this very simple request will result in the following action:

We will actively encourage ALL Clans, Leagues, Ladders, Players, Admins and server providers to enforce a series of 24hr mass server shutdowns of all Call of duty games at a time of our choosing.

Don't take this lightly, word spreads, people won't buy a broken toy. This has never been done before and do you really want to go down as the first and only companies to have it's client/fan base take such drastic measures in order to simply be given some regular information about a product, the choice is yours alone.

WE WILL NOT BE IGNORED ANY LONGER.

TALK TO US AND HELP US, TO HELP YOU MAKE THE CALL OF DUTY SERIES BETTER ONLINE GAMES. DESPERATE TIMES CALL FOR DESPERATE MEASURES, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

To my knowledge, should this action take place it will be the first and only time such drastic measures have been taken by any gaming community anywhere in the world. I don't want us to make history but it may come done to it.

SHAME ON YOU AV AND IW FOR LETTING IT GET THIS FAR....

=rTr= Team Rustic Rebels will support the server lockdown on Dec. 17.

Insist on cheating? Check this out.
Wednesday June 30th, 2004

The cost of cheating on PunkBuster servers has just gone up significantly. PunkBuster now computes Hardware GUIDs for various pieces of hardware on players' systems while playing on PunkBuster servers. We use multiple private one-way hashes so that no serial number information for individual computers can be determined by admins or anyone else who may try to obtain this information from a Hardware GUID (and as always, no personal information of any kind is examined, stored or transmitted by PunkBuster).

When players raise a violation that corresponds to cheating or interfering with PunkBuster's normal operation, we now (in addition to Global PB GUID bans) are Globally banning the new Hardware GUIDs across all games supported by PunkBuster (including games supported in the future). So punks who are determined to cheat so badly on PB-enabled servers that they try to cheat PunkBuster may now need a new computer in addition to a new cdkey in order to return to PunkBuster servers. As with previous PB GUID Global bans, the new Hardware GUID bans are permanent and will not be lifted.

As always, players who are affected by these Global bans will still be able to play on non-PB servers. Honest users should never "test" cheats that claim to interfere with PunkBuster. We have successfully tested this new feature set over the past few weeks for a few supported games and will be rolling it out to all supported games over the next few days and weeks. Additionally, PunkBuster servers will be updated to signify whether kicks for Global bans are for PB GUIDs or the new Hardware GUIDs.

And from the horse's mouth....Punkbuster

Some Items of Interest...or not
As everyone is probably acutely aware, the web-site is in dire need of some updating. As you may or may not be aware, The Dark Side will be moving to a new server in the next few days. We will be utilizing a dual 2.4Ghz Xeon machine. We will probably be running two Call of Duty servers (one a TDM and the other may rotate gametypes). There is a possibly that we may re-instate a Spearhead server for our die-hard SH fanatics.

Because the IP's of the server's may change, I have not updated the info to appropriately display the live server pages. When it is clear what servers will be using a particular IP, I will do my best to do that ASAP.

In the event that the Spearhead server is restarted, it will require a committement on someone's part to police the server and see that it conforms to =rTr= standards. If that requirement cannot be met, then the server numbers will be reduced. More on that later.

Any ideas, thoughts, or suggestions are always welcomed. Please make a post in the appropriate forum.

Spearhead Server Rules
Server Rules

1) Ensure that your fellow players have fun! The server is here for everyone to have a good time. Not just you. If you make the playing experience of others unenjoyable, you may be asked to leave.
2) No Swearing....period. Swear and you will be banned.
3) Obey the Server Administrators. If asked to do something, do it.
4) Do not Team Kill. Repeatedly and intentionally TK and you will be banned.
5) Do not Type or Chat Kill. If someone's chat box is showing, do not kill them.
6) Do Not cheat. This includes, but is not limited to, aim-bots, wall hacks, glow hacks, bush hacks, open_gl hacks, view kick hacks, certain scripts, and full screen sniper scopes. If our anti-cheat devices report you to the admins as cheating, you will be banned with no warning. Please don't come crying when you can no longer play.
7) Do not Spawn Rape. If a player complains about you spawn raping, take it upon yourself to find another location or use another tactic. If not, the admins may do it for you.
8)Do not abuse game glitches. Don't argue about it. It is a server rule, and the way we like to play. This includes, but is not limited to, taking advantage of game glitches at walls, around corners, and in the water. If an admin asks you to refrain from a practice. Do it.
9 )Rifles Only implies the use of your rifle as your primary weapon. The intent is to provide practice, add a sense of realism to the battlefield, and give some playing time to those who enjoy a good game of rifles. If you insist on making it a club-fest or grenade war, you will be removed.
10) All players will required to abide by the rules. This includes guests, admins, and especially =rTr= members.
11)See Rule #1.

Failure to abide by the rules of the server or a request of an admin can and will result in your removal. If an admin feels your actions warrant it, he will have you banned.

If you have a problem with another player, an admin, or a member of Team Rustic Rebels =rT=, please make a post in the appropriate forum, PM, or email Pvt.Floyd,Pink or Crazy Yoda[PL]
